Product Design  Paper – 1 hour 15 minutes, 25% of final grade. Assesses design skills and design thinking through a written design response.

Specialist Option Paper – 1 hour, 25% of final grade. Assesses knowledge and understanding of materials, processes, and commercial manufacture

Component 2: Project – School-based assessment (moderated by Cambridge), 50% of final grade. An extended personal design project consisting of a 3D product and a design folder

Students should have a personal passion and interest in how the products we use on a daily basis are designed and made. You will develop skills in problem identification and problem solving, traditional and modern design including advanced computer-aided design, traditional and modern manufacturing, including computer-aided techniques including laser cutting, 3D printing and plasma cutting. 

If you wish to consider a career in Architecture, Computer-Aided Design, Product Design, Environmental Design, Furniture Design, Industrial Design or Mechanical or Structural Engineering, then this course would be an excellent choice for you! This course is a good foundation for your studies towards IB Design Technology or Advanced Diploma in Engineering.
