In the World Literature course, students will study a range of literary genres (poetry / prose / drama). There will be an emphasis on the effects of literary techniques and language used by authors. A focus will also be looking at cultural contexts and themes raised.
Through the study of Literature, students will acquire lifelong skills in interpreting and evaluating texts in addition to learning how to develop and communicate an informed personal response to literature.
Assessment
Assessment
Students will complete a portfolio worth 40%. Within the portfolio, students will be asked to write a critical essay and a creative response on texts they have studied (these texts will not be assessed in the exam).
Students will complete two examination papers.
In Paper 2 (20%), students will write a literary commentary on an unseen poem.
In Paper 3 (40%), students will write 2 essays based on a set literature text that has been studied. It will be a closed book examination.
