The course emphasises practical learning through performances, workshops, and projects. Students can choose to specialise in acting or theatre production. You will undertake a number of performances during the two-year course, culminating in a showcase performance in Year 11. Students will learn about the inner workings of the performing arts industry. Through workshops, venue visits and industry professionals, students will learn the different roles and responsibilities in planning, preparing and presenting a performance to an audience.  

A genuine desire to learn more about the performing arts is the most important attribute you can bring to the course. You will need to be well-organised, open-minded and reliable as this course is portfolio and project-based rather than exam-based. 

Whilst this is a practical course, the ability to choose your pathway means that you can be as successful as a lighting or sound designer as you could be as an actor. You do not need to have previous experience. 

The BTEC International Level 2 in Performing Arts typically includes the following units:

1. Introduction to Performing and Production Arts: This unit provides a foundation in the performing arts, covering various disciplines and production roles.

2. Performing Arts Production: You will learn about the production process, including planning, rehearsals, and performance. You will then apply these skills to a public performance during Year 11.

3. Specialist Units: Depending on the chosen pathway, you will be able to specialise in the following areas: Acting or Theatre Production.

BTEC Level 2 Performing Arts is assessed through a combination of practical work and written portfolio evidence:

• Project-Based Assessments: You are assessed through practical projects and performances, allowing you to develop and demonstrate your skills and creativity.

• Continuous Feedback: Regular feedback from teachers and peers will help you improve your performance and understanding of the subject. 

• Introduction to Performing and Production Arts (60 Guided Learning Hours)

• Two Specialist Units (60 Guided Learning Hours each). Students can choose from the list below:

     • Performance Project
