Future Proofing courses enable you to invest in areas of study that will strengthen your personal development, prepare you for Post-16 study and strengthen understanding of new careers opportunities related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
This is a menu of WIS developed short courses which give students the opportunity to explore a wide range of personal interests, with an emphasis on transferable 21st Century skills development.
‘Content skills (which include ICT literacy and active learning), cognitive abilities (such as creativity and mathematical reasoning) and process skills (such as active listening and critical thinking) will be a growing part of the core skills requirements for many industries. Overall, social skills—such as persuasion, emotional intelligence and teaching others—will be in higher demand across industries than narrow technical skills, such as programming or equipment operation and control.’ (World Economic Forum - Future of Jobs).
Students who decide to do Future-proofing Courses will choose a total of two courses in Year 10 and one course in Year 11. You only need to choose your Year 10 choices at the moment.
It is likely that not all Future-proofing Courses will run due to a lack of numbers. Therefore, you will be asked to make reserve choices for this reason.
We want to give students a range of opportunities to really personalise their learning, therefore, instead of Future-proofing Courses, students can decide to do the extra Science units to complete Triple Science qualifications or choose the High Performing Student Athletes Programme.
