Students will complete the Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Award in Creative Media with a focus on the construction of various multimedia products such as advertising (print, video and online), video (film, television, online, DVD) and podcasts; this will be delivered through the Creative Arts faculty.
The course is 100% coursework with no examinations. Students will be assessed on two units of coursework, feedback will be provided and an opportunity to improve before final submission is provided.
Unit 1: Research, Develop and Propose Ideas for a Digital Media Product
This is a mandatory unit in which students will learn about various research methods used within the Creative Media industries in order to conduct research into products and audiences. Students will then apply this knowledge and understanding to develop and propose an idea for a digital media product from either the film, advertising or podcasting sector. This could prepare students for a career in any of the various creative Media sectors in roles such as Market Research Data Analyst, Advertising Account Planner, and Editorial Assistant.
Unit 4: Digital Video Production
Digital video production covers a wide range of film and video making from movies, TV adverts, news, music videos, promotional videos to tutorials and viral videos on the web, but each shares common factors, which are the use of camerawork and features which communicate effectively to the target audience. In this unit, students will explore the features of video products for different purposes and platforms. Students will use their findings to inform the pre-production, production, post-production and digital publication of a video product for a specific purpose. This could prepare students for a career in the Television, Film or Digital Video sectors. Careers in these fields can be both creative and technical Director, Producer, Cinematographer, Sound Design and Post-Production.
In addition to this, students will undertake extensive skills development in production, which is designed to support their continued study of Media or Film at Post-16.
